Navient Structured Finance Specialist - Data Management in Reston, Virginia
The Structured Finance Speacialist supports the corporation's asset backed funding program and the Corporate Finance group at large by maintaining portfolio performance models, portfolio reporting and analysis, constructing and validating data files and analysis from internal and external sources, aggregating loan assets into transactions that meet market and rating agency requirements, and performing analysis that will allow the corporation to enhance and grow its asset-backed securitization (ABS) program.
The Specialist will interact with the Senior Manager, Corporate Finance Data Management and Reporting, to utilize MS Office-based and SAS-based models for portfolio performance analysis, data transformation, and reporting.
The Specialist will ideally have a background in either VBA, SQL and/or SAS, and finance or economics, as well as familiarity with applications related to modeling, reporting, data analysis, and business intelligence. The position requires the Specialist to be able to accurately execute complex analytical process models and reports, develop efficient logic, and effectively evaluate, validate, and interpret process results. The Analyst must have the ability to solve logical problems that are encountered in the development of reports and analytical tools.
The Specialist must have the ability to think clearly and creatively, engaging in research to execute timely and efficient deliverables. The Specialist will need to interact internally with the other members of the Corporate Finance group, Legal, and Accounting departments as well as externally with rating agency analysts and investment bankers. The Specialist must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. The Specialist is expected to build a thorough knowledge of the operations of Navient and its business practices over time.
The Specialist role would be appropriate for ambitious and financially minded individuals who are looking to gain experience in the structured finance/ABS industry from the ground up by developing skills and techniques necessary for asset performance analysis, ABS structure analysis, and data analytics.
- Perform supporting analysis for new and existing ABS transactions and funding vehicles
a. Assist in the preparation of rating agency presentations
b. Prepare internal transaction performance assumptions
c. Execute monthly and quarterly transaction asset performance reporting and analysis procedures
d. Maintain analyses to understand the impact of operational and financial programs on transaction performance
- Perform tasks needed to support Corporate Finance data analytics
a. Perform analysis of data to determine transformations needed
b. Process data into a consumable format for use by internal groups and support external reporting
- Perform ad hoc analyses to support requests by management.
a. Assist with the performance analysis of existing securitizations and financial facilities
b. Perform ad-hoc performance analysis of potential transactions and other not-yet securitized assets
c. Analysis and reporting as-needed for Rating Agency queries
- Work across Corporate Finance and with Accounting, Credit Risk, and Operations to support optimal financial execution of corporate initiatives
a. Support asset performance expectations for portfolio acquisition analysis
b. Support evaluation of operational performance strategy for optimal financial execution as needed
c. Apply knowledge of asset performance to support trust operations, trust administration, and the finance data group as needed
Bachelor's Degree - Economics, Mathematics, MIS, Statistics, Finance
0-2 years' experience with financial modeling/analysis
0-2 years' experience in Microsoft Excel and Access or similar business intelligence tools
Financial analysis, statistical, and modeling skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Creativity, critical thinking, intuitive, and problem-solving skills

VB, VBA, SAS and/or SQL experience is a plus
Familiarity with credit risk, default, and/or prepayment modeling and other analytical techniques
