This position is located on the ETIS II contract at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.



Performs standard and routine tasks under close supervision and receives on-the-job training to operate conventional and CNC equipment and machine tools such as lathes, drill presses, and milling machines.

Interfaces and supports engineers and technicians in the machining, composites and precision assembly areas.

Receives technical advice when needed and performs under close supervision. Mentors other personnel in precision programming and machining.

May cross-train and/or support all groups or other duties associated within area of assignment as directed by lead personnel or supervision.


  • Primary duties are to under close supervision operate conventional and CNC equipment and machine tools.

  • Also must be able to accurately use measuring equipment; geometric dimensioning and tolerancing using precision equipment, and read, interpret and follow written procedures and simple technical drawings and other routine tasks as directed by lead personnel or supervision.

  • Applies knowledge of working properties of metals (including, but not limited to aluminum, stainless steel, brass, copper and exotic metals).

  • May be cross-utilized and cross-trained to support other groups in order to develop overlapping workforce.


  • Education or years’ experience commensurate with skill level required for position complexity as determined by management.

  • Working knowledge of the operation of multi-axis programming and machining, preferably using MasterCam, FeatureCam, or Pro Manufacturing.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.

  • Ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of work flow.

  • Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.

  • Must be capable of passing required physical examinations and successfully completing the following training: hazard communication, personal protective equipment, IT security and other required training or certifications as directed by ETIS II management.



  • Will require an extensive amount of walking, sitting, and standing.

  • Works while bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, or in a prone position for extended time periods.

  • Lifts and carries items up to 35 pounds.

  • Ability to use hearing and vision protection and respiratory equipment.

  • Ability to handle stress and work well under pressure

  • Multi-Tasking Ability, Organizational Skills required.

  • Work with other personnel in a group that is Team Oriented.

  • Accept and work within established policies and procedures pertaining to company rules and regulations.


  • Operates conventional and CNC equipment and machine tools such as lathes, drill presses, and milling machines.

  • Hand tools such as hammers, punches, long nose pliers and small wrenches.

  • Government vehicles.

  • Desktop computers utilizing Microsoft office suite software including Word and Excel.


Regular daily attendance and reporting on time is required to maintain shift effectiveness. Overtime (Holidays, Weekends, and Scheduled & Unscheduled) is required.
