*University of Maryland, Baltimore is currently seeking a Plumbing Technical Trades Manager for the Department of Facilities Management. *The selected candidate will oversee and coordinate administrative and technical operations associated with the Plumbing Trade. Responsible for daily operational functions, supervision of staff, quality control and emergency management.

Serve as technical expert and manage the daily operations in the technical trade specialty of Plumbing: Responsible for developing and creating unit goals and objectives.
Plan, supervise, and coordinate the activities of assigned personnel in the specialty trade. Provide technical expertise and guidance to the staff. Provide training to staff in work methods, use of tools and equipment, and relevant safety precautions. Participate in performance evaluations and hiring; recommends areas for individual training and development.
Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, schematics and specifications.
Oversee and recommend changes to the internal operating procedures.
Schedule and coordinate activities with the user departments and divisions. Assess needs and technical requests. Ensure the timely completion of forecasted and preventive maintenance programs.
Respond to inquiries and complaints from the user departments.
Provide visual inspection and quality control by monitoring project progress. Ensure compliance with projected results, codes, regulations, and requested standards.
Examine and inspect work progress, equipment, and work sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met. Recommends special work or necessary equipment maintenance, upgrades, designs, and or purchases.
Estimate material and worker requirements to complete job. Assist in budget projections, budget preparation and departmental planning for area of responsibility. Monitor work activities and expenditures to control costs.
Ensure adequate supplies, materials and equipment are maintained for the area; initiate and/or prepare documentation related to purchase transactions; recommend and supervise vendors; oversee the ordering process.
Evaluate emergency service needs that arise during shift to determine level of action required. Determine strategy and provides follow-up with management in affected area. When necessary, serve as working supervisor to meet the demands and needs of the situation.
Research and recommend applications of new operational methods, techniques and equipment.
Participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating work processes, systems and procedures to achieve University goals, objectives, and work standards.
Provide day-to-day leadership and works with staff to ensure a high performance, customer oriented work environment and support for achieving the mission of the University and the department.
May participate in long-term planning to assess future needs to achieve the mission of the University and department.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education:High school diploma or GED. None
Experience:*Eight (8) years progressively responsible related experience
Supervisory:*Four (4) years of experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
Licensure/Certification:Maryland State Licensed Plumber.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, schematics and specifications.
Knowledge of relevant regulations regarding specialty area (such as OSHA regulations).
Familiar with the concepts, practices, and procedures in the field.
Ability to translate technical requests into designs, charts, sketches, and/or diagrams of specialized equipment.
Skills in leadership, coaching, and teambuilding to strengthen and cultivate relationships.
Ability to analyze, compare and interpret facts and make sound judgments.
Ability to prioritize ongoing and new projects in order to meet established goals and objectives.
Skill in continuously seeking to improve the quality of services and processes.

Possesses knowledge and skills for relevant trade-specific software packages.
Ability to exert force up to 70lbs, work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions as well as the ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

Hiring Range: Mid to High $70K - Commensurate with education and experience
