The Maryland School for the Blind (MSB) Night Care Specialist in Baltimore, Maryland
Summary: With supervision, provides overnight Child Care program to an assigned group of students.
Makes rounds every 1/2 hour to monitor sleeptime program for assigned students.
Provides wake-up program for assigned students.
Administers medications to assigned students.
Maintains log of overnight program.
Maintains communications with other cottages or floors.
40 overnight hours per week with no scheduled break. This position follows an 11-month school calendar.
Requires AA degree; OR a minimum of a HS diploma/GED Equivalency with a minimum 2 years related experience; OR a current RCYCP Certification.
General knowledge of residential child care principles and techniques.
General knowledge of bedtime, sleeptime, and wake-up theory.
General knowledge of report writing and data collection methods.
Basic knowledge of visual impairment and a variety of disabling conditions.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
After six months in this position, the employee is required to have:
Certification in CPR & first aid
Completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Training.
Residential Child and Youth Care Practitioner Certification.
After one year in this position the employee is required to have certification or satisfactory training completion in: medication monitoring, lifting techniques, and fire safety.
