The Manufacturing Technology Engineering (MTE) team of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer 5 .
The Manufacturing Technology Engineering (MTE) team engages with low manufacturing readiness level (MRL) programs in business divisions and the Engineering Science and Technology (ES&T) functional business unit to ensure manufacturing capabilities required for strategic applications are being developed and are ready for implementation into production.
The Manufacturing Engineer 5 will engage with the business divisions during pre-proposal and proposal program phases to offer insight into higher yielding, novel, and evolving manufacturing processes. Additionally, she/he will develop a broader understanding of all the business development needs in a business division. This position may require performing the manufacturing portion of a Manufacturing Readiness Assessment (MRA) as well as assisting other functions in their assessments. Based on the MRA, the MTE engineer is responsible for working with the development integrated product teams (IPTs) to develop Manufacturing Maturity Plans (MMP).
The MTE team also aligns manufacturing capital and internal research and development (IRAD) resources to the development of discriminating technologies (identified based on the technology roadmaps and common architecture approaches) including additive manufacturing, advanced packaging, automation/robotics, electro/optics, data analytics, and digital fabric.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Interface with business division to stay current with new concept and proposal programs
•Technical interface for Business Division integrated program teams (IPT) for projects that are MRL 5 or less
•Support technical manufacturing aspects of developing MRAs and MMPs
•Partner with Global Supply Chain and the IPTs in making smart make/buy/align decisions
•Participate in producibility reviews for new product designs
•Recommend design improvements to produce lower cost/higher performing products
•Understand and translate state-of-the-art process capabilities and guidelines for product designers by interfacing with manufacturing subject matter experts
•Develop discriminating IRAD and capital investment plans with the rest of the MTE team
•Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, science or other relevant STEM degree plus 14 years of experience or a Master of Science degree with 12 years of experience (or 9 years with a PhD)
•Self-motivated and passionate about next generation sensor technology
•Broad knowledge of processes and materials used to make Actively Electronically Scanned Arrays (AESA) including semiconductor technology, microelectronic assembly, surface mount technology, and materials for RF performance
•Must be able to understand complex technical issues and frame them in context for program management and functional Vice Presidents alike. Excellent organizational and communication skills.
•The ability to find technical adjacencies across different sensor product applications. These adjacencies will be paired with IRAD, capital, and MTA planning to ensure common processes are used to optimize NGMS resources.
•Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications :
•5 or more years of manufacturing process engineering related experience
•2 or more years of program experience (operations program manager, program management)
•Familiarity with process development and control methodologies such as Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and 6 sigma concepts
•Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and experience with automated equipment
•Understanding of factory costing methodology and process yield metrics
•Basic understanding of concepts related to typical manufacturing systems such as: MRP, kitting, batch sizing, configuration control, and work flow routings
•Familiarity with MIL-STD, JEDEC and Space class hardware requirements
