ASSISTANT RESEARCH ENGINEER / SCIENTIST IN COMPUTER VISION and COMPUTER INTEGRATED SURGERY
The Johns Hopkins University Laboratory for Computational Sensing and Robotics (lcsr.jhu.edu) seeks an Assistant Research Engineer/Scientist to lead the development of computer vision, robotics and related software. We are looking for a candidate who is excited to work in a fast-paced, collaborative research environment and who will support projects by:
Leading the development of software that process image and video imagery for a wide variety of robotic and medical applications.
Supporting the publication of research results in peer-reviewed conferences and journals.
Keeping abreast of new developments in real-time computer vision, medical imaging, and 3D display technology, serving as an expert in this area.
Assisting students and research personnel as needed to develop advanced research prototypes.
The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:
MS degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field
Prior experience in developing computer vision software
Prior experience in an academic or industry research environment
Excellent skills in C++ and Python
Strong mathematical background, including linear algebra, statistics, and numerical optimization methods.
Prior experience with open-source vision and robotics toolkits such as OpenCV and ROS
Experience with 3D graphics, animation and simulation
User interface design experience with cross-platform Graphical User Interface libraries (Qt, wxWidgets, FLTK, etc.)
Knowledgeable in the areas of multithreaded software design, object-oriented software engineering, design patterns, and component-based programming.
Familiarity with software development tools such as Subversion (SVN), git, Doxyen, and CMake.
Familiarity with machine learning is not required, but is also desirable
